Issues surrounding race and racism have been front and center in our national (nations) consciousness in the past several months. Personally, it has caused me to pause and reflect on how I may have fallen short in making issues of equality and inclusion a top priority in my personal and professional life.
These realizations led to a decision to focus intently on contributing my talents and resources to ensure that there is truly “liberty and justice for all” in our country.
Some of these conversations will be difficult. But it is essential that we have them and have them in a way that’s inclusive and brings all to the realization that working honestly and openly with each other will lead to a brighter future for all.
The best way to do this is through, as Professor Loretta Ross of Smith College advises, “calling in instead of calling out.” This approach is a strength Edvance Life Skills has and a strength we can build upon.
I do not see this initiative as optional or incidental. This is THE core work of our time.
My goal is to get these conversations started through the use of our programs and tools to as many people as possible as soon as possible. I am very excited by the passion, knowledge, and thoughtful focus each member of our team has brought to the table. Personally, I have been moved, changed, and inspired through the privilege of working with you.
I think of my own children as I do this work and the world I want them to become a part of. Change is underway and I want to be a part of it. It may seem daunting at times, but I am confident we can accomplish great things and accomplish even greater things if we maintain our focus and intensity.
We will get this done. Together.
